"Look beyond the exterior"
Despite the hotel is still undergoing renovation at the front facade, I still give it a 5 star rating! When we arrive by taxi, the concierge welcomed us with a smile and were quick in sorting out our luggages, as we were occupied with 2 kids below 5 years old.
Check-in process was swift and the front counter staffs were friendly and helpful. We stayed at Room 839, overlooking the carpark, but the view didn't bother us. The extra perks of staying in Royal Plaza (as you have known by now) are the complimentary mini bar and Nespresso coffee. The room was spacious enough with LCD TV, hair dryer, bath robes, safe, kettle and baby cot as requested.
Toilet was well maintained with toiletries consisting toothbrushes as well.
Breakfast spread was superb. Lots of healthy variety to choose from from Western to Chinese and Japanese as well. Love the extensive choices of fruits, perk up my mornings!
We chose this hotel based on the location, walking distance to Orchard Road shopping and dining area as well as the good promotion they are currently running. However, we felt we gain more in return with the high level of service from the staffs. We can see that the staffs are truly happy working in Royal Plaza, thus giving their level best to the patrons of the hotel.
"Perfect stay with great value"
We didn't rate the hotel 5* , because the place was under renovation and the pool area was rather poor for a Singapore 5* hotel. However, the hotel is highly recommendable, because of its location 1 block away from Orchard Road and Orchard MTR Station, famous for its wonderful shopping and dining options. We also loved the super buffet. Breakfast, lunch and dinner there are delightful and have plenty of variety , such as , western, oriental and Indian foods. The room was big enough for our needs and had amenities, such as tooth brushes, L'Occitane products and everything else one can expect from a world class 5* hotel. Mini bar in the room was free and was replenished every day. The Royal Club Lounge on the 15th floor offered wonderful food and the staff was very attentive and went out of their way to make us feel at home. The hotel is outstanding value for the rate charged .
"Even more impressed second time round"
Chose to stay here again at Royal plaza on Scott and was not disappointed. Customer service was excellent from room service to doorman, every one of them always have a smile on their face & was very helpful!
Buffet breakfast was awesome but not as great during the weekend when the usual staff are off. Get in early to avoid the queue.
Staff were truly amazing. Friendly, helpful, welcoming, professional: there's a really great "can do" attitude. Business centre - free printing, coffee, envelopes, posting stuff for me. It all nakes a huge difference when you're away from the familiar places and routines. Complimentary mini bar was a really great thing to have. Pool was great. Only outdoor part of the hotel. Open 24/7. So it was never too early or too late for a dip in the pool. When working silly hours this was a huge boon. Breakfast was amazing. Ten or more different stations. Fruit / English /German / Indian / Malay / Chinese / breads / waffles / pancakes / pastries, and more. More to discover every day. I stayed for a fortnight and it was as great on the final morning as the first one.
The location is excellent for business and retail. It isn't by the waterfront nor in a "traditional" area. It's very very good for what it is.
"Nice hotel, perfect location"
This hotel is fine with regard to rooms and food, just fine. The concierge is great (he arranged everything we needed and even corrected services from a tour-operator who was not doing it's job). The location is perfect for shopping as this hotel is on the corner of the main shopping area.
"One of the best 5 stars hotel right in downtown of Singapore"
The hotel has superb and excellent service from the beginning. When i was arriving in Singapore with my wife, we just headed down directly to this hotel. From the beginning, the concierge was really showing good reaction by unloading our luggages from the taxi and gave us the small paper tag which means they had taken care of stuffs. When we did a check in around 11am, the reception also responded quickly without letting us know to queue for long time even though they mentioned that the room had not been ready yet but they gave us approximate time when we should go back to hotel.
They explained we had complementary breakfast in morning, complementary to consume all drinks and cookies in fridge with being replenished everyday, and many other benefits for every room they have. We are really happy with this kind of service, and we could say this is an A++ service.
The room itself is comfort even tough the furnitures were old rather than other 5 stars hotel. The only drawbacks that i could find were the wardrobe's door was dislocated from its position and it was hard at the beginning to find hairdryer since they put it under one of drawers in writing desk (not really understand why it was located here).
So, definitely this is one of the best hotel in town and very good service they provide. Probably the best idea is to improve the sofa seats in the lobby which not really comfort to sit though.
"First time hitea at Carousel"
24 February me and my wife come for hitea, I would like to thanks about one staff kitchen name Nelson. I see a lot people to taking about food chicken sawarma and see 4people customer no idea how to do the food about the sawarma and Chef Nelson was very passion and helping of them, for the next customer is me and he very helpful doing two for me and my wife too. He very good staff and he always keeping Smiling. Good Job Chef Nelson.
"Pleasant stay, convenient location"
First time in Singapore and we feel we made the right choice of a hotel. Location was convenient to the underground, shopping, and the on/off tourist bus. So easy access to where ever we chose to go.
The hotel is undergoing some outside construction but no big deal. Lobby and the rest of the hotel were lovely. Our room was quiet, comfortable, and always very clean.
We opted for the club level room and it was well worth it. The club room atmosphere and evening cocktails and appetizers were quite enjoyable. Breakfast in the club room turned out to be quite an advantage due to the crowds in the dining room on the main floor.
We had a wonderful three days in Singapore in large part due to the Royal Plaza. Very friendly staff that meet all our needs and helped us find our way around and gave suggestions on places to eat as well as things to see and do.
Next time we find ourselves in Singapore we hope there is space available.
We chose this hotel mainly because of its Halal certified kitchen. There are only a few available in Singapore (four according to my research) and Royal Plaza on Scotts seemed most promising. Also because they're offering a great deal on their website its almost a bargain (always check the promotions page).
Its strategically located opposite a bus stop, near Orchard MRT, and within walking distance to the array of malls along Orchard Road. The staff, from the cleaning lady up to the men greeting us at the entrance, are friendly and accommodating.
We experienced having breakfast, lunch and hi-tea at Carousel. The spread was ah-mazing. The bread pudding is a definite must try. As well as the grilled japanese chicken available during breakfast.
We booked for superior rooms, but due to over capacity, was upgraded to deluxe on the upper floors. The lush pillows were a bit too lush for my small size, but other than that, the room was great. The only downside for me is the TV channels. Over forty available, but none showing EPL. I had to livestream the weekend matches on my notebook (free WIFI though so its cool).
Highly recommended, especially if you're looking for a Muslim friendly hotel.
"Another excellent trip"
Stayed here two years ago and was so impressed that we decided to book again for 4 nights. Some building works at the front but this has no real impact on your stay. Staff were excellent, very helpful and quick to respond to a couple of queries. Room was a good size with a very comfortable bed. All spotlessly clean.
Hotel is in a great location for visits around Singpore as well as eateries and shops nearby. Do visit the Ion food hall across the junction. MRT close by and buses. All in all a good standard hotel. Thoughly recommend.
"Birthday treat for hubby"
I booked during CNY promotion. And to my surprised they upgrade my room for FREE when they find out its my hubby birthday. With a welcome birthday cupcake for my hubby too! Plus the room have nespresso (hubby love nescafe) and its also FREE. Minibar also in house.! WIFI superb. Its a worth staycation me n hubby had. Just few mins walk to Shaw Lido to catch our midnight movie :)
My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights. Location was perfect, lots of shops on your doorstep and also close to MRT station. Could not fault anything. Reception area is very grand and all staff were friendly and could not be more helpful. Room was spacious, bed really large and comfortable. Had breakfast every day - range of food outstanding. Would recommend to anyone coming to Singpore.
"A hotel with everything to love"
Location - first class. 5 min walk from Orchard MRT. I can walk back to the hotel to rest in the middle of the day whenever I feel tired from all the shopping.
Cleanliness - Sparkling. Spotless.
Service - friendly and warm. Even the cleaning staff greet you on your way out
Room - loved the modern interior. Bathroom had glass walls so you can still watch TV while soaking in the tub.
Amenities - premium, quality stuff. Toiletries was L'Occitane. The in-room beverage bar served up N'espresso and TWG tea. I was entertained by Nat Geo and The Economist magazines. Wifi was in good order.
Overall, the price was excellent relative to other establishments along the Orchard belt. Totally would recommend it to my friends.
I've finally found the hotel in Singapore I can come back to again and again. The location is excellent, in the heart of Orchard and close to a number of shopping, entertainment and food area. The staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were luxurious and spacious.
I agree with another commenter who suggested that you would need to have a very high standard and not be bothered by price to not enjoy your stay here.
I can definitely see why this place is really popular at the moment. My only fault is that I couldn't stay here on my most recent trip because all the rooms were booked! :(
"Outstanding Club Floor Service"
Having lived in Singapore for nearly 20 years, (now in Thailand) booking hotels for business & friends, it started as Traders Hotel, Orchard etc. I now can say that RPS is unequivocally the pinnacle when it comes to Club Floor experience. Carousel restaurant is exceptional & that comes from someone who generally avoids buffets. Concierge staff astound me on every visit. Never hVe an issue with housekeeping and when I request center creases on my business slacks I get it! Very unusual. Outstanding service. (I used to teach hospitality, so I'm hard to please).
We have stayed at this hotel 3 times in the last 4 years. We love this hotel the location is superb close to cinemas, newton circus and great shopping. The buffet breakfast is unbelievable and the staff are so friendly. We will be going back in December with members of our family
"5 star service from the best..."
I have refrained from reviewing Royal Plaza on Scotts (RP) for the longest time. Honestly, I have returned to RP numerous times after my last comments here. But after our most recent stay in January 2014, I believe another review of RP was called for.
As always, we were welcomed with smiles upon arrival at the hotel. The facade is still pending completion but that did not stop the warm reception we got from our home away from home. Uncle Syed and his son (Saiful, if I am not mistaken) are always there and happy to see us return.
Check in was quick, though we had to wait 10 minutes for our room to be ready. Not that it's the hotel's fault as their normal check in time is 2pm (we were there just before noon). Opted for the Premiere Room this time around and the surprise that waited for us in the room was priceless. I have to say the effort in preparing for it took some thought. My upmost thanks to Julia, Kathryn and Fang Jie for what they prepared for us. I will not divulge what the surprise was but it planted smiles on our faces for a very long time.
Location is a given staying at RP. A few minutes walk from Orchard Road, get ready for a huge dent in your wallet if shopping is your thing. Rooms are always clean, the free (yes free) in room minibar is replenished daily, without fail. Complimentary wireless internet is fast. What more can ask for?
A review of RP will not be complete if I did not mention Encik Ibrahim and Fara from the Concierge Desk. This time around they were at hand in assisting us with our 1st Causeway crossing to Johor as all arrangements made were easy and hassle free. The trip to Legoland Malaysia was the more pleasant with their help.
I dare not forget to mention about dinner we had at Carousel (RP's award winning buffet restaurant nestled just by the entrance of the hotel). Simple advise.. TRY IT! They did not win back to back awards for nothing. The spread and quality of the food served was amazing.
I have travelled a lot in my time, but to return repeatedly to RP and know the people personally behind the services rendered speaks a lot about a hotel. Mr. Patrick Fiat, the General Manager (though I do not know him personally) has a very excellent support team behind him and for that I applaud them.
Well done and thank you RP!
"Great time in Singapore"
We have stayed at hotel for 4 days in February 2014 and enjoy each day. The location is great, service excellent and buffet breakfast is unbelievable. All staff members is very friendly but we would love to mention Mohamed Ibrahim-chief concierge, he is so helpful, friendly and just great human. Thank to his advices we saw much more then expected and safe a lot of time. We are definitely will be back.
Upgraded this time to the superior room which was slightly bigger and hence more enjoyable for us. The quality of service remains exceptional and the staff are truly friendly, accommodating and professional.
"An Exceptional Experience...Try it!"
Please do not be influenced by your first impressions of the Royal Plaza on arrival! The hotel is undergoing some refurbishment and much of the exterior is shrouded at ground level. This said, the worth of a hotel should not to be judged by the external appearance, but what goes on inside!
The Royal Plaza on Scotts is situated on the corner of the renowned Orchard Road and is close to the MIT and bus links allowing easy access to the rest of Singapore. The philosophy of the hotel basically that ‘Happy Staff make Happy Guests’, and this philosophy is in force from the moment you leave the taxi when you are greeted at the hotel entrance. Check in is a breeze and staff are very welcoming and eager to please. We were lucky to have an upgrade to a Club room, but I shall come to that later...
Rooms in the RP are not huge, but this is really to be expected in a Singapore city hotel. This said they are quiet, very comfortable and have exceptional beds. The daily replenished free mini bar and Nespresso (although the latter is now found in many hotels), is very welcome. The club rooms are similar in layout to general rooms, although they benefit from a bath as well as a shower, and l’Occitaine toiletries (home from home)!
Breakfasts are exceptional. The range of food available is vast and choices vary from day to day. Most nationalities and religious persuasions are catered for…and it means that a breakfast plate can be very multi-cultural! Again, staff are quick to remember faces and very welcoming. I can’t emphasise enough the quality of the staff in the RP. They are always smiling and never fail to acknowledge their guests. It is also great to see that there appears to be a very active training programme in force, as some staff wear a ‘Newbie’ badge. It is interesting to see, however, that this is worn with some degree of pride rather than disdain!
An upgrade to Club level was wonderful for me. My husband was working during our stay, and as a freelance editor it is usual for me to have my laptop in bag and work from my hotel room. The upgrade meant that I didn’t have to work from my room, but had access to the Club Lounge where working on the fast free internet connection was great. A constant supply of tea and soft music made my work very enjoyable indeed! Club guests can also have breakfast in the lounge (although we prefer the bustle of the usual breakfast sitting), as well as free afternoon tea and evening ‘cocktails’. Evenings were a lovely experience with attentive staff members who were happy to provide tips on places to go and things to see.
All in all, The Royal Plaza is a very fine hotel. It should be extremely proud of the high quality service it provides…and I (for one), will be returning!!
